Skara Brae on Orkney Island

Skara Brae on Orkney Island - Pre-historic village Now the homes are underground due to the high winds on the island. There are no trees here because the wind blows them down!

The Orkneyjar article on our landscape is accurate. It is myth to suggest that Orkney is treeless or that wind has anything to do with the absence of woodland. we are pretty sure N.AMERICA was wall to wall forest 500 years ago. Orkney is a man made landscape as is all of Europe and the developed world.

On Orkney or indeed anywhere else in Scotland. It's a preference for grazing animals over other land uses
